Banana Split Party Invitation - Go Bananas!

by Megan Berry
(Washington State)

I improved upon a jungle themed invitation that I found on the Parents Magazine website and came up with this super-fun banana invitation! It was for my daughter's 3rd birthday, which was a banana/monkey-themed party.

Here's a quick break down of how I made it:

The peel is made out of yellow eco-felt. I traced a banana shape onto the felt and then cut it to about 3" from the bottom so it could be "peeled" by the recipient. I also used a brown Sharpie to make some marks around the stem.

The banana is made out of pale yellow cardstock. It took me awhile to get it layed out precisely, but I used Microsoft Word to print the wording onto the cardstock. Then I traced a banana shape around the wording and cut it out.

By the way, the wording is "Susannah is turning 3! How about a banana party? Does that sound a-peel-ing?" There are so many more banana puns you could use, too!

I glued the felt peel onto just the bottom 3 inches or so of the cardstock banana. I also affixed a square of double-sided tape to the very tip of the cardstock banana. Then I used a fine tip Sharpie to write "peel me" on one of those clear, round filing labels/dots that you can get at Staples. This holds the whole thing together and allows the guest to peel back the felt and read the invitation.

These were just the right size for a business envelope, so there was no extra postage required.
